HMRC's Personal & Business Tax Accounts Explained

HMRC's Personal Tax Account (PTA) and Business Tax Account (BTA) allow you to view and manage your tax affairs online.

The Personal Tax Account is designed for individuals, including those not self-employed. With it, you can:

The Business Tax Account is for businesses already registered for:

  • Self Assessment (sole-traders or Partnerships)

  • VAT

  • PAYE

  • Corporation Tax - for limited companies


  • you will use just one BTA to access multiple taxes, such as Corporation Tax, PAYE and VAT (but not the same login you use for your PTA), for how to add different tax types to your BTA see this short video.
